Mistake 1: Not counting tiles
The most common beginner mistake is playing without counting the tiles. An expert Competidor knows at all times which tiles have been played, which are still in the bag, and which the opponent likely holds. This information is the basis for any strategic decision. Without counting, you play blindly; with counting, you anticipate.
Mistake 2: Saving doubles too long
Doubles (the double-six, double-five, etc.) have strategic value, but beginners tend to save them "for the right moment" that never comes. By the time they want to play them, the chain has closed and the double becomes a liability. The rule: play doubles early when possible, especially if you have many of the same suit.
Mistake 3: Not planning the close
In points-based dominoes, the close (when no player can move) determines who wins by point count. Many beginners play without thinking about the close, then lose because they have many points in hand. The rule: from the start, identify your low-value tiles and keep them for the close; get rid of high-value tiles early.
Mistake 4: Ignoring the opponent
Dominoes is a two-player game of perfect but partial information. You see your tiles and the played tiles, but not the opponent's. Beginners play "their game" without reading the opponent. An expert Competidor observes which suits the opponent passes on (probably doesn't have them) and which they play eagerly (probably has many).
Mistake 5: Playing for real money too soon
The fifth mistake is jumping into real-stakes Matches before mastering the basics. GamesP2P offers free practice Matches for a reason: skill must be developed before being tested with real stakes. The rule: play at least 50 free Matches before risking USDT, and never stake more than 5% of your bankroll in a single Match.
Bonus: the bankroll rule
Bankroll management is the foundation of any long-term competitive activity. At GamesP2P, the rule is simple: never stake more than 5% of your bankroll in a single Match. This means if you have 100 USDT, your maximum stake per Match is 5 USDT. This allows you to absorb losing streaks without being eliminated.
